One of my 6-year-old twin boys JUMPS up from bed in the wee-mornin’ today. There goes any luck for me getting any more sleep. Thing is, 6 year old boys wake up ALREADY in a gear of energy and speed that rivals most Nascar races. And Blaze, in particular, is known for his lightning-speed energy and ability to entertain and exhaust me. Yes, as his nickname suggests- BLAZES around the house, leaving my head spinning, but he’s like a blazing ball of energy that lights up my world.
So he bolts up ready to attack the day’s adventures. Engine revving, he stops briefly for a pit-stop. (You may recognize this as, ‘breakfast.’)
The crew has some race strategy discussions. (We have breakfast and talk about the day.) I remind him that it’s his cousin’s birthday.
“She’s SO LUCKY!”
“Why?”
“It’s ST. PATRICK’S DAY!”
“Yes, it is, Sweetie.”
“Oh! So she was born with the leprechauns.” Ummmm, is that what it’s called? Most of you may call this Labor & Delivery. I simply offer, “she was, huh?”
“Yes! How old is she?”
“She’s 17 today.”
“Oh. I thought leprechauns were older. ” This crew member lets him ponder on that one. Intense now in curiosity, he excitedly asks, “Does she know where the end of the rainbow is? Because that’s where the other leprechauns are.”
Without waiting for an answer, and done fueling up, he speeds off upstairs into his next adventure.
Just moments later, he reappears and says, “MOMMA, LOOK! Now, I’m ready for St. Patrick’s Day.”
This IS the end of the Rainbow. This is the gold.
Just as all moms know. And Dad’s. It’s in the faces of our kids and those we love.
I’m lucky, I live at the end of the Rainbow everyday. My boys, my family, my faith. This IS the ‘gold’ at the end of the Rainbow.
What’s at the end of your rainbow? What are you thankful for today? As you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy all the gold in your life.
And here’s an Irish Prayer to help celebrate your day:
An Irish Prayer
May God give you…
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
